CDMC Program Overview and Coursework
Classical training programs are anchored in individual disciplines and academic departments and do not provide students with the appropriate interdisciplinary and praxis-oriented training required by the labor market of today. The CDMC training program closes this critical gap in a most important area of the molecular biosciences. CDMC is a research-focused program with a special emphasis on interdisciplinary projects supervised by two CDMC mentors. Student mobility and exchanges are strongly encouraged. The program also provides students with professional skills training as well as training in the commercialization of scientific discoveries, the protection of intellectual property and the practice of research in the private sector and in government. Graduate students do two to three rotations in the laboratories of CDMC mentors and a limited number of courses totaling 10 academic credits are required.
CDMC laboratory training course
Techniques and Instrumentation (6 credits) 6-weeks training course in May/June at the Université de Montréal, cutting-edge techniques in imaging, high-throughput screening, proteomics, protein purification and structural biology.
CDMC Research and Professional development seminars
Research Seminars (1 credit) Development of presentation skills and seminars featuring invited scientists as well as professionals from industry and government.
CDMC Summer Research and Professional Development Symposium
Symposium on Macromolecular Dynamics (2 credits) Annual two-day summer symposium featuring, high-profile international speakers and CDMC mentors including a poster competition and grant writing exercise.
Commercialization and Intellectual property management
Valorization and Intellectual Property (1 credit) Training provided by the Université de Montréal commercialization partner Univalor and the Office of Research Services (BRDV).
